 Moles

Mole-Chasing Strategies

Reprinted from The Pleasure Planter, February 2005

The Groundhog has already poked his head out, so spring is just around the corner. Along with the warmer weather comes that pesky critter – The Mole.

Moles have an appetite like a hungry elephant – they can eat half their body weight in food every day. No wonder moles hide underground most of the time. The lack a flattering figure!!

As winter precipitation makes the ground soft, you may start to see early signs of Moles making a mess of your lawn.

Because Moles are such dastardly little critters, you need to arm yourself with an arsenal of weapons. Use several in conjunction with each other to assure better control.

1. Leave the burrows raised and add mothballs to their runs every 6-8 feet.

2. Have a Cat? Sprinkle the used kitty litter into their holes, to warn them that big, scary predators are lurking around.

3. Cut Juicy Fruit Gum into small pieces and drop them into the runs and holes every four feet. It’s a great repellant.

4. Use a commercial product containing Castor Oil. Moles just hate the smell. Can you blame them?
